Chance found my brief attendance at Steamcon 2009, an event marked by some of the best cosplay I’ve ever seen and a surprisingly free lunch. Wasn’t there long but this shot, while far from being particularly impressive, marked a small moment in time observed from the back of a venue. Picture of the day, indeed.

I don’t often become emotionally attached to attire but good lord these were the best boots I’ve ever come across. Purchased online from a tent in Iraq circa 2002 this marked a third trip to the Middle East, not to mention their travels in Amsterdam, Germany, and dozens of foot trails across the states. Was still seeing salt from Chicago months later, leather soaking up experience as well as the elements.
Guess the rocks and heat finally bit back.
Had an identical pair sitting in a closet for the past year, not looking forward to breaking them in.

It’s wet here.
As puddles surface to invade the lower limbs my trusty foot leather caps soak through. The following day, as they dry, crusty remnants of two years in Chicago surface in an attempt to remind me of my roots.
