PotD – Field Trip

Not very touchy-feely pets but critters I’m responsible for all the same.
(lord, I need to re-shoot these guys)

The pathos and philodendron in the tank have continued their expansion thereby necessitating today’s temporary relocation for some much needed pruning. Also found a few gallons of water in the false bottom which made the stair ascent… interesting. Nice to see the design is still working though.

Should hop in to that new google app and chart out the latest design as this is the second vivarium tank it has proven its efficiency in.

Post prunage.

Toadararium v3.2 – Thriving like nobody’s business.

Since the last move nearly all my plant life has exploded, save the 3 ivy baskets which all developed spider mites and were therefore quarantined one by one over the past couple of months.

I’ve now been in the relative area for 15 months straight which is a bit of a record, though technically I’ve lived 3 different places. While attempting to be less materialistic I really did enjoy having a packed bookcase, functional desk, and other places set aside for their functionality. I recently left a small financial hurdle behind, anticipation of the next and it’s corresponding relocation, which will only preempt others, has become… taxing.

If things play out I’d like the next move to be the kind that allows for a transition to follow in which stockpiled wealth leads to rich Persian rugs, dark hardwood floors, and a level platform with a view of the outside for the feline. It is from such a setting that one could launch a successful assault on the acquisition of a degree, having established a base of operations for at least 3 years, the subtle advantages of which would permeate day-to-day goings-on for a strict veracity of mental contentedness.

Beyond that who knows, but hell I’d take 3 years in one place lately.

As to how this incoherent diatribe relates to the housing of my pet amphibians I offer no more in the way of an explanation.

PotD – Gutload

I recently made the change to full grown crickets (50ct = $3.48 with tax) for my firebelly toads.

(here are three of the six. the green one is a female and of a different species than the others)

These guys went from a tank with a volume of 120 gallons to that with less than 20 following my most recent move. It’s a temporary housing solution that turns their world into a gladiatorial buffet for the duration of each feeding. They attack on site anything moving, including each other.

I haven’t yet had to pry loose any tiny amphibian maws from any tiny amphibian limbs but that day can’t be too far off.

On average I have had at least two animals that consume crickets for the last 10 years, generally purchasing about 25 crickets a week – though at one point I was at well over 300.

10* 52 * 25 = 13000

Each cricket usually costs 7-10 cents, so a very rough estimate puts my spending anywhere between 1 and 2 thousand dollars on crickets alone.

I’d be more interested to calculate their combined volume in cubic feet.
